Canon EF 35mm f1.4L II USM is the first ultra-fast professional full frame wide angle lens incorporating BR Lens (Blue spectrum refractive optics lens). A newly developed 14 elements in 11 groups optical design with 1 BR lens, 2 aspherical lenses and 1 UD lens to achieve unprecedented image quality. The BR (Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics) Lens effectively eliminates axial chromatic aberration and color blur even at wide open aperture, which are not correctable with conventional lens combinations. While the use of 1 large diameter glass-molded(GMo) aspherical lens, 1 ground aspherical lens with 1 UD lens results in higher image quality across the entire image including the periphery even at wide open aperture. An optimized lens design also reduces sagittal flare in the peripheral areas dramatically. The application of SWC (Subwavelength Structure Coating) on the 1st lens element suppresses the ghosting and flare caused by light with a high angle of incidence. The lens 9-blade circular aperture produces beautiful out-of-focus image. A 0.28m minimum focusing distance with 0.21x maximum magnification brings more extraordinary result for close up photography with large aperture. A rear focusing design with ring USM and optimized AF algorithm bring fast and quiet autofocus with full time manual focus. The optimized mechanical structure provides improved resistance to shock and vibration, dust and water resistance design and fluorine coating on foremost and rearmost lens surfaces offer durability and operability that satisfies the demand of professional users.
